The Wooden BoxTimber Frame Extension in Co. LeitrimIn the 1980s, a kitchen and bathroom were added to this traditional cottage. The rooms were cold, dark and damp. We demolished it to make way for a spacious, bright and highly-insulated timber-frame structure, clad with locally-sourced native larch. New large windows make the most of the light and the spectacular views to the south.
The foundations are wrapped in continuous insulation. Wood-fibre and cellulose (recycled newspaper) insulate the walls and roof. Roof-lights have been positioned to bring in maximum natural light. The timber windows are triple-glazed. |
