One of the best ways to prevent dereliction in historic buildings is to use them. This is the thinking behind the GLAS Traditional Farm Building Grant Scheme, which allows for up to 75% of the costs of rehabilitating these buildings for everyday farming activities.

In order to preserve the character of the Granary, the conservation mantra of doing as much as necessary but as little as possible was very much to the fore.

A minimum of rafters were replaced, respecting the undulating profile of the roof. Where missing stones or mortar did not compromise the stability of the walls, things were left as they were. The width of the upper-level doorway was increased, however, to accommodate the large size of contemporary round bales.
